After viewing the above video and even doing a little internet research on your own, identify one figure in the painting School of Athens by Raphael and describe the relevance of that figure in terms of the purpose of the overall work.
This painting was commissioned by Pope Julius II for his private apartments. Many great thinkers are included. Some are included with double meaning as they are historical figures modeled after contemporaries of Rafael (one even is a self-portrait of Raphael). Let’s dive into this masterpiece a little more by identifying at least one figure each, explaining who they are, and relating how they fit into to the overall scene in the painting.
