Galinsky’s Stages of Parenthood

Child Relationships

Galinsky’s Six Stages of Parenthood are described in your textbook on pages 21-22. Stage Five is referred to as The Interdependent Stage. “During this stage, parents alter their relationship with their adolescent children to allow for shared power” (Figure 1.3). While the relationship is changing to greater shared power, parents of adolescents still retain an authority position.

For your discussion, describe examples of greater shared power and examples of retained parental authority. You may relate your examples as a parent of an adolescent or relate examples of shared and retained power while you were an adolescent. Discuss the impact of both the shared and retained authority experiences. Your post should consist of at least 200 words.
