COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY
What you need to do
Generate detailed study guides for each chapter. The study guides consist of sets of
questions and answers taken from your study materials. You will have to come up with AT LEAST 20
questions per section of each chapter.

That means that, for example, your guide for Chapter 1 will consist
of at least 60 questions because the video lecture is divided into 3 sections, for Chapter 2 you will need at
least 80 questions because the video lecture is divided into 4 sections, and so on. Your questions must
cover the entire presentation (for example, you cannot ask all 60 questions about the first two sections of
Chapter 1 and not touch on the rest). Irrelevant or repeated questions will not count and may incur a
penalty in your grade. There may be slides with lots of information that generate multiple questions, while other slides are light on information that does not generate questions, but still your total number of questions must be at a minimum the numbers indicated above. You can generate more questions than the required minimum, which is beneficial to you because you will have better study materials for the exam.

Keep these things in mind:
 Your study guide must be submitted in Word format (.doc or .docx formats). No other format will
be accepted
 The questions must have full sentence answers and CANNOT be in any of the following formats:
true/false, multiple choice, fill in the blank, or any other format in which the answer is not re-
arranged into your own words
 Try to focus your questions on the main concepts explained in each slide
 Look at the information and ask yourself “What could Dr. Hans ask about this slide in the exam?”
 Better study guides will lead to better grades in your exam
 The time you spend working on your study guide is time well spent preparing for your exam, but
you still need to study the materials
 USE these study guides to prepare for your exams
 Put your answers into your own words, do not just copy and paste from the slides (I will check on
this!). This deeper processing of the information will help you understand it and remember it better
 These study guides must be your own work, copying someone else’s study guide will be considered
plagiarism and will be dealt with according to University regulations for academic misconduct.
 It is in your best interest to prepare thorough study guides, going well beyond the minimum
number of questions, and to use them while preparing for the exam
 If a study guide deviates too much from the guidelines, it may not earn any extra credit (that is, if
a study guide is seriously defective or incomplete, it will not earn any credit even if it includes some
valid questions)

Study Guide Format
 The top of your first page must include the title of the assignment, the class information, term, and
your name (see example below).
 Include a title for each section (e.g.: “Chapter 1 – Part 1”, etc.)
 Within each section, the questions must be numbered consecutively (without skipping any numbers)
and indicate which slide the question came from. For each new section start numbering the questions
from 1.
 The slide number and the question itself must be in bold, while the response must be in regular font.
 The document must be single-spaced.
 Spelling MATTERS. Questions with misspell words will not be counted towards your total.
This is an example of what the beginning of your document must look like:
