Using The Round House and Winter’s Bone, compare the impact this tragic event has on the bildungsroman (coming of age) of the protagonists.

What kinds of commentary do you think these novels are making about coming of age and trauma/distress/pain?

Consider the genders of the victims, the setting of the event (during the characters’ adolescence or before), and time periods in which these novels are based.
