2. Appraise the evidence found, to determine whether its findings are reliable – and relevant to your question/topic
3. Summarise the findings – looking at 2 things:
The quality of the evidence
The findings within the papers
4. Act on the findings…….ie.make recommendations
Assess where you are! Do you need to make changes? If so, how might you do this?
i.e.

Dubious practice – ‘we’ve always done it this way and we don’t think about it.’
Good practice – ‘we’ve done it, we like it, and it feels like we make an impact’
Promising approaches – some positive findings but the evaluations are not consistent or rigorous enough to be sure;
Research-based – the practice is based on sound theory informed by a growing body of empirical research
Evidence-based – the practice has been rigorously evaluated and has consistently been shown to work

LEVEL 7 ASSIGNMENT CRITERIA:
• Practice issue: 10%
Practice issue is appropriate and parameters for area for intervention is defined
• Search Strategy/Evidence: 30%
Detailed search strategy is described. Appropriate evidence is used to develop arguments, draw wide conclusions and identify gaps in evidence
• Knowledge and relevance: 20%
Demonstrates excellent theoretical underpinning subject knowledge, and relevance to practice is comprehensive, explicit and focused.
• Analysis and argument: 30%
There is evidence of thorough analysis, structured argument and synthesis of idea. Intelligent recommendations for practice improvement are provided. Work demonstrates originality and generation of alternative views.
• Academic presentation : 10%
Style, syntax, fluidity of expression as per level 7 standards. Adheres to Harvard referencing. Originality report satisfactory.

(Pass) 7 or below (Fail)
• Confident statement introducing topic and aims of presentation

• Slides clear, legible and uncrowded –evidence of some originality/creativity in presentation

• Spoken text adds to and expands on AVAs – language is professional and meaning clearly articulated

Content of presentation
• Presentation addresses the title appropriately and broader issues are considered

• In depth analysis and understanding demonstrated appropriate to meet level M criteria

• Introduction to presentation sets out context, background , rationale and explains approach to be taken/issues and evidence to be discussed

• Evidence base is explicit – current primary sources are critiqued and significance of results is explored

• Application to practice is critically evaluated

• Summary of main points and conclusion
