For this assignment, create an accessible, audible presentation to accompany your Unit 4 Formal Report. Please summarize Unit 4 Formal report by presenting the information with some type of virtual media. The presentation should be both visual and auditory–a slideshow with voiceover narration, in other words. Whichever software or program you choose, the presentation shouldn’t require much effort from your viewers (i.e., They shouldn’t have to do more than just push “play”).

For your presentation, you should first assess its rhetorical context, including audience, purpose, and context of use. Your audience for the presentation is the same as the audience of your written analytical report. Consider the presentation a summary/supplement of the document you’ve already submitted. Read or reread Section 4.6, Section 2.2, Section 3.2, and Section 4.1 in ITPC as you prepare for this assignment.

The Assignment

Prepare a PowerPoint slideshow to accompany around 5-7 minutes of oral remarks. The slideshow should introduce your Analytical Study, including introduction, methods, results, and discussion. Here are some additional pointers:

Create effective text, including concise prose, itemized or sequential lists, and message titles rather than topic titles. (A topic title might say “Designing a PowerPoint Slide,” whereas a message title would say, “You Can Design a PowerPoint Slide.”)

Stick to the IMRaD format & you can’t go wrong.

Keep any listed items in parallel structure. Maintain conceptual parallelism as well; i.e., ideas of equal weight should be included in lists, and the items on any list should serve the same function.

Design your slides using consistent fonts, colors, and backgrounds. Keep your designs uncluttered and readable. Employ visual elements such as photos, charts, tables, or graphs.

Narrate your presentation. Don’t merely read your slides; that’s insulting to the viewer. Use the words as a starting point of what to elaborate on. Both of these programs are simple to use; neither requires additional software, although you will need to create an account. With either of these programs, you’ll first create a slideshow (probably using Microsoft PowerPoint), and then you’ll add narration through the VoiceThread or Screencast-O-Matic website. Or, if you like, you can use some other form of virtual media (You can create a QuickTime video, add voiceover to a Prezi Links to an external site. file, record a webcam broadcast, or, most simply, add audio narration directly into your PowerPoint file, or create through mp4). If you don’t have a microphone on your computer to record audio, you can use the resources at the SMART Learning Commons in Walter Library.
