The summative assessment (BMS4147):
In this practical session you have tested the effect of two different conditions on an ELISA for
thyroid stimulating hormone.
Present your results and, using these results to do the following:
- Discuss how changing the sample volume affects the relationship between concentration and
absorbance.
From this, what might be the optimum conditions for this ELISA given:
i. The reference range of 0.5-4.5 iU/L for TSH
ii. What you know about TSH measurement for the diagnosis of disease
2. Discuss the range of possible diagnoses that would be consistent with the TSH levels obtainedthy
from the results of the samples U1, U2 and U3 and what further tests would confirm this
