– Given that the amount of work that must be accomplished in the allotted time seems to be increasing we find ourselves having to make choices on how to relate to that predicament. I well remember when our medical system moved from a paper-based environment to an electronic medical record (EMR). For some, this answered the need to have all of the relevant data available in any context by as many who needed it. For others, it detracted from writing a highly individualized note regarding a patient’s medical condition and the care provided to more copying and pasting of what someone else contributed. Still others felt it detracted from the face-to-face time that had with patients or it was such an overwhelming change retirement from medicine became the result. We as humans have to devote energy, sometimes in considerable amounts, to dealing with change so how has ongoing change helped or hindered the way you believe patients should be cared for? Discuss among yourselves how you have tried to implement creative ideas in patient care, or have been the recipient of novel changes to your workflow you didn’t feel benefitted what you do?
