Evidence suggests certain social groups earn less on average than other social groups. Using the example of EITHER the gender pay gap, OR ethnic pay gaps. (i.e., choose only one of these two), critically assess why pay gaps emerge and how might compulsory pay gap reporting reduce these disparities.

• Include a definition of pay gaps and how social groups (gender, ethnicity, social class) are defined (whichever one you’re looking at)

• Outline reasons why average pay between groups occur (e.g., individual factors, job and workplace factors, and the possible role of discrimination)

• Support arguments with evidence or examples where possible

• How compulsory pay gap reporting can help with closing gaps
