In your essay, you will be writing a total of three (3) short essays. You must answer one of the options for each of the questions below (question 3 has only one option).

Your answers must be based on course materials only and will only receive credit for answers based on course material. All writing must be your own and the work is not to be done collaboratively. Make sure to use citations to show where you found your information.

Question #1 (choose 1A or 1B)

1A: In 1 page, explain how the early United States dealt with its foreign policy problems (ie, American issues that involved other countries, like international trade, diplomacy, or warfare) during the Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison presidencies. Make sure that your essays specifically explain what those problems were and how each President approached their solutions, and how successful (or unsuccessful) those solutions were.
1B: In 1 page, explain how the early United States dealt with its domestic policy problems (ie, internal issues in the US) during the Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison presidencies. Make sure that your essays specifically explain what those problems were and how Presidents tried to expand or use their authority to solve those problems.

Question #2 (choose 2A or 2B)

2A: In 1 page, explain how colonial desires for self-government and British needs to fix their financial problems helped lead to the American revolution, from the time of the French and Indian War to 1776. How and why did the relationship between Britain and the American colonies deteriorate so badly?
2B: In 1 page, compare and contrast the American and British strategies for victory during the War of Independence, and how they planned to use their armies to achieve those objectives.

Question #3 (one option only)

3: In 1 page, compare and contrast the wartime behavior of US troops/civilians and the so-called “Seminole” Native Americans of Florida during the Second Seminole War. Make sure to address the use of violence and atrocity in your essay.
