How Does Genetics Effect Addictions?
Addictions is the number one research topic in society. In the last decade, research has begun to discover how genetics plays a role in the “Addictions War” that is ravishing our society. Research has proven that if an individual with a genetic predisposition to addictions drinks alcohol the effects will be different then their “friend” who drinks and doesn’t have a genetic predisposition. Meaning this, once genetics is part of our “story” it changes everything! Statistics show us that one out of every six people that you come into contact with is struggling with some type of addiction. With that in mind, all of us know someone who is currently struggling with an addiction.
1. Within your paper explain the definition of addictions.
2. Choose one of the addiction topics from the textbook and explain what social workers need to do different to better help that population.
3. Why doesn’t everyone who drinks alcohol or who illegally take prescription medications containing opioids have the same reaction?
4. The paper needs to be 2-4 pages (not including the cover and reference pages) or you will automatically lose 25 points.
6. The body of your paper must include the following headings: definition of addictions; how social workers need to help these populations; why doesn’t everyone react the same to addictive substances?; types of services the agency you visited for the first assignment provides for individuals suffering from addictions; and training and certification/license requirements of personnel working with this population. If you don’t do this section correctly you will lose a possible 25 points.
7. Also, in this paper, you have to have at least two professional references. One of your references can be the information from your course textbook and the other reference must be from a professional journal, such as The Social Work Research Journal, Social Work Journal or the Journal of Traumatic Stress, or something like those types of journals. These references cannot be from a blog, a website or a hometown newspaper, it HAS to be a professional journal and if you don’t know what that is go to Troy Library and they can help you out. From these professional journals you will be finding articles on addictions. An example would be “What Category of Drugs the Fastest Growing Addictions in the U.S?” and if you don’t do this section correctly you will lose a possible 25 points.
