Description

The second half of our course looks at nationalism and imperialism in the later nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and their long-term effects. The theme for paper 2 is resistance and rebellion. A thesis statement is one sentence that expresses the main idea of a research paper or essay, such as an expository essay or argumentative essay. It makes a claim, directly answering a question. You can look at any resistance movement or rebellion in the later nineteenth or twentieth century, regardless of whether it was successful or not. Please write a 4-5 page paper, and make sure to address the following question: How does your resistance movement/revolution/revolt use or critique nationalism and/or imperialism? Note that you only need to discuss either nationalism or imperialism, but it is possible for a movement to use one and critique the other, and in those cases you should discuss both. Make sure to use at least 1 primary source and 3 secondary sources, of which 2 must be scholarly.
