Length: 5-9 pages for the total assignment

1) a proposal (2-3 double spaced pages)

2) an outline of the project (2 ½ to 3 double spaced pages)

3) a rhetorical analysis for that project (1 ½ to 3 pages)

Develop skills that show a high degree of consideration for your audience, and establish a strong persuasive argument that is well articulated. A well formulated proposal will also outline and define the goals you are going to complete for the client you have chosen.

For this assignment, Look up information in your current field of study, and what kinds of problems and documents are frequently used “on the job” to “resolve” those problems. If you cannot think of a “problem” you should at least be able to figure out a type of document your professional field would need and propose how you would create it. The assignment will take form of a “packet” similar to your job packet assignment, where you will have multiple documents you must complete.

The assignment “packet” should contain: 1) a proposal (2-3 double spaced pages), 2) an outline of the project (2 ½ to 3 double spaced pages), and 3) a rhetorical analysis for that project (1 ½ to 3 pages).

Be sure to use a standardized format for the proposal that is outlined in the samples I have created and added into the modules for you. There are also a sample proposals in our Canvas site which correspond to this assignment to help you with formatting. Feel free to experiment with style, but make sure you keep in mind “good” technical communication and make sure that the document is readable and efficient.

Compose a proposal that will persuade your client to accept and potentially fund your technical document, and outline for how you will complete that project, and a rhetorical situation analysis where, you look at how you will create your project, and allow it to meet the needs of the situation. What you propose in the proposal MUST BE A TECHNICAL DOCUMENT, and not a random large project.

Make sure that your proposal is doing the following:
Is at least 2-3 double spaced pages in 12 point, Times New Roman Font
Identify the problem to be solved or the document to be created
Identify why the problem should be solved or why the document should be created
Propose you have generated in the appropriate level of detail
Show the benefits of your solution and/or document
Call the audience to action for your project
Construct your proposal in paragraph format with properly formed headings (in a manner similar to your previous memo assignments). Simplicity with this type of document will be key to the client’s acceptance. Make sure that you include any lists of items that you may need in the document, because that can help to draw the focus of the client. Add any headings that you feel would be beneficial for keeping your client on track with your ideas. For some projects these items might not be necessary in the initial stages, but including them shows attention to audience awareness.

Once you have written the proposal make sure that you highlight the following items as they are some of the most essential for this particular document:

The purpose statement in the introduction
The statement that indicates what you are proposing in your plan
Sources for where you found the cost
Who is responsible for each cost
Your cost table introduction
Total cost of the project
The introduction to the timetable
The measure of success in the Expected Results section
The call to action

Make sure that your outline does the following.
You are to use a standard outline style to create an outline for the client for whom you are creating the document. This outline should be 2 ½ to 3 pages in length with 12 point, Times New Roman font. You will need to detail how the project will come to fruition from beginning to end and create a rhetorical analysis for the project you are going to be creating, where you describe how and why it is going to be the best project for your intended client. You will have to find someone who needs a technical document created for them.

For the outline make sure it is as extensive as possible, because in a real situation, you would need to make sure that every audiences needs are met. You will likely be unaware of who would be handling the document and their level of expertise. You need to do more than just list what you are going to do, you will also need to explain why each of those elements need to be addressed as you move toward the final client project.

For the rhetorical situation analysis, make sure that you look at how you would create your project, and allow it to meet the needs of the situation.
For the rhetorical analysis assignment, you will need to construct an essay that is 1 ½ to 3 double spaced pages in length, where you describe each of the following elements:

Audience
What are the characteristics or traits of the audience for the document?
Purpose
What are you trying to accomplish?
Context: Physical
How will your audience feel about the physical environment? What will it be like when they read the document?
Context: Mental/Emotional
How will your audience feel when reading the document?
Context: Cultural
What are the potential cultural elements that will come into play?
Each of the bullet points above should be developed in a paragraph, where you describe both the rhetorical situation, and how it will lead you to make decisions about the final document.

You must cite any sources you use and make sure to include some method of documentation that will suit your purposes.
