Density of a Plastic cube

Materials:

Equments – Balance, Graduated cylinder, Glass Rods, Polypropylene cubes, Caliper

Chemicals – Water, 1,2 – Dichloroethane, Methanol

Procedure:

  • Tare the balance. Place cube on the balance.
  • Determine mass of cube and document mass.
  • Use the caliper to pick up the cube and measure the edge of cube length. Record the data.
  • Use cube’s length to calculate volume (Find cm3 by multiplying the length 3 times.
  • Use cube’s mass and volume to calculate density (Find density by dividing the mass by cm3). Record data.
  • Use clean pipet to transfer 3-5 mL of liquid to clean graduated cylinder.
  • Place cube in graduated cylinder containing liquid. Record if the cube sank, floated, or if it was suspended.
  • Pour liquid into Chemicals for Disposal beaker. Place used graduated cylinder in Wash/Waste bin.

Questions

If the balance was not tared to display 0.00 g prior to adding the cube, which of the following statements are true? Select all that apply.
