TASK

Prompt:

You have been hired by a national on-line news outlet to write an 800 – 1000 word blog post. Your audience is college-educated consumers of the news who are well-informed generally, but are not considered to be well-informed regarding your topic.

Write an educational, informative post, that is not overly academic in style and is interesting. Your publisher wants a lot of hits on the blog post due to advertising revenue connected to this section of the news outlet.

Your editor wants you to write a blog post that conveys that other countries have successful health care systems and they aren’t all “socialist”. She wants you to help the readers understand that the United States could benefit from implementing some changes in our healthcare system and social safety net in general, and we should look to our peer countries to understand what has worked well in other countries.
She specifically warns you to not use examples from just one country. For example, don’t just say we should copy Germany’s system and then describe it! Or, let’s be like Sweden! Instead, she advises you to investigate the systems of different countries and think carefully about what we could possibly “import” to the United States and what we should get rid of in our current system.

In other words, how can do better in terms of this terrible fact that we spend more money on healthcare than all our peer countries, yet have worse health outcomes?

Required Components of the Blog Post
