Counseling Competence – Process/Goals #1

A Hispanic male, RC, (high school senior) was referred because he engaged in a shouting and shoving match with a Caucasian male student. RC reports that he does not like the fact that his sister, AC, (sophomore) is good friends with a Caucasian male whom she interacts with constantly. The counselor wants to stop RC from engaging in conflict with the other student (goal 1) and to understand that his sister has the freedom to befriend whomever she chooses (goal 2). Therefore (process) she employs anger management training and brings the sister into a later session to help her explain to her brother that he cannot run her life.
