Several high school students have the opportunity for an internship at a local company. Among the students chosen to apply is a Native American male. However, this student has not done well in the initial application process and is referred to the school counselor to help him to prepare. One of the goals is to help this student become more outgoing and dynamic in interacting with officials of the local company (goal #1). The counselor takes the student through some trial runs (process #1) at completing the company’s required test by setting a timer and asking the student to complete several tasks within a certain time-frame. He also rehearses the student in making eye contact and extending a firm handshake. The counselor also seeks the support of the student’s family (goal #2) by inviting them to meet so that he can interact with the student’s family by modeling eye contact, handshakes and exhibiting a “business-like” demeanor (process #2).
