BMEN 2210 Lab 10 – Operational Amplifiers

  1. In Multisim construct a non-inverting amplifier with a gain of 3. (non-realistic resistor values can be used) Use an AC voltage source with a peak voltage of 1V and frequency of 100 Hz. Power the positive and negative rails with 10 V & -10 V. Use an O-scope to observe the output.
    1. Write down the resistor value used for Rf and Ra.
    2. What is the approximate peak voltage on the O-scope?
  1. Change the AC voltage source to 10mV peak. Change the resistors on the non-inverting amplifier to apply a gain that will take 10mV peak to (or close to) 10V peak. (Non-realistic resistor values can be used).
    1. Write down the resistor values used for Rf and Ra.
    2. What is the maximum peak voltage?
    3. Is the output clipped? If the output was clipped, but the resistors couldn’t be changed, what can be adjusted on the circuit to prevent clipping?

 

  1. Design an inverting amplifier with a gain of -3. Use an AC voltage source with a peak voltage of 1V and frequency of 100 Hz. Use the oscilloscope channel A to observe the voltage source and channel B to observe the amplifier output.
    1. Why are the input and output out of phase?
    2. How much out of phase are they?

 

  1. Change the frequency to 100 KHz. Only observe the output of the amplifier on the oscilloscope.
    1. What is happening on the output?
    2. Why does this occur?

 

  1. Set up a circuit with the following schematic (on second page). Use the LM358 op. amp. to convert to a negative voltage.
