Q5 Required- 15 Points) Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balanced_scorecard) defines a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as “a performance management tool…that can be used by managers to keep track of the execution of activities by the staff within their control and to monitor the consequences arising from these actions.” [4] Traditionally, it includes four perspectives:
“Financial: encourages the identification of a few relevant high-level financial measures. In particular, designers were encouraged to choose measures that helped inform the answer to the question “How do we look to shareholders?”
Customer: encourages the identification of measures that answer the question “How do customers see us?”
Internal business processes: encourages the identification of measures that answer the question “What must we excel at?”
Learning and growth: encourages the identification of measures that answer the question “How can we continue to improve, create value and innovate?” [4]
In a page or so, comment a) on the need for the IT manager to “keep score” and b) on the use of the BSC in general to do so. Conclude by stating the top five reasons why the IT manager should use a BSC approach.

Q7 Optional- According to Wikipedia, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analytics) analytics is “the discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data.” [3] I claim that all IT managers will encounter many facets of analytics during their careers, from supplying them to their organizations to using them to manage IT. In a page or so, please comment on this definition and claim, and clearly state whether you agree with them or do not agree with them and why. Also state how analytics might be useful for the IT manager and comment on the costs and value to the IT manager of providing and/or using analytics as described in Wikipedia. Draw and describe the relationships between analytics and what our textbook describes as performance measurements on pages 2-10.

Q8 Optional- Start development of your IT Manager’s Toolkit by investigating possible tools for strategic planning and aligning IT with the organization’s strategic plan. If you don’t know where to start, do a web search on SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats), metrics, analytics and the balanced scorecard. Describe what you find here and share as appropriate on the D2L discussion topic for IT Toolkits. Answer these questions for each tool you want to include:

How is the tool accessed?
