One of the major barriers to effective treatment of HIV is the fact that while the disease is dormant and asymptomatic, people may not see the need to be diagnosed or tested. Many also fear the stigma of being HIV positive and the resulting cascade of problems related to disclosing their status. Some may believe that it is better not to know.
