As agreed with the customer service, this research paper will be part of a A1 poster. Since you can only provide the text and pictures for me (I will later draw the poster), I also need, at least 10 technical figures or tables I can use, with a definition of 2 MB each taken from the literature review that you will do (but NOT ALL from the pdf -links below), otherwise they will not be visible when I will put them on such a large poster.

Harward style; abstract of 150 words plus body and conclusions. Number of figures and tables unlimited. It also must present a minimum of 15 references.

Title: research paper: Site Investigation and Risk Assessment – Geology and Hydrogeology

Prepare a site Investigation and risk Assessment research paper– geology and hydrogeology

  1. Read the project information at the links:

http://www.brymbo-park.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/190426_P1_Planning_Statement.pdf

  1. Based on your literature survey/journal papers (library, web), prepare a good case study site investigation & risk assessment on Brymbo Colliery project. In your researches you can also refer to other similar projects;
  2. Look at all aspects related to site investigation: geology, hydro geology, legislation, techniques used for site investigation, sampling strategy & types of analysis, pollutants contamination levels, redevelopment, maps, risk assessment. These are mandatory.
  3. Present the case study and the site investigation techniques used and discuss them critically;
  4. The research paper must be original, contain elements of risk assessment together with site investigation.
  5. It has to be a critical analysis of all the aspects, focused especially on elements of originality of the case study chosen, difficulties, and what has NOT been done (or could have done better).

Don’t forget the discussion about old maps, geology available reports, boreholes logs info (you can also access and use the BGS maps for boreholes online and previous site investigations:

Other suggestions about site investigations and risk assessment

The site presents potential contaminants, it can be close to residential area (you need to verify) and may present interactions with business activities that actually need certain quality/quantity of the water: how EPA has classified the site as in terms of water quality standards? Has this anything to do with the project?. Try also to understand movement of groundwater in the subsurface and how to conceptualize groundwater movement as a resource in the subsurface), eventual floods risks etc.

  • Try to discover and identify boreholes and trial pits.
  • On maps you can find, discuss the zoning of the area related to obstructions, possible contamination etc…Divide the aerial/ ordnance map provided in zones.
  • Suggest a sampling strategy for each zone
  • Suggest non-invasive site investigations techniques and justify the choice for each zone
  • Suggest ground investigation techniques and justify the choice for each zone.

Objectives:

  • The student will be able to understand the movement of groundwater in the subsurface and how to conceptualize groundwater movement as a resource in the subsurface;
  • The student will be able to understand the role of hydro-geology within water resources management and the importance hydro-geology as a discipline
  • The student will have the ability to interpret hydro-geological parameters and evaluate groundwater within an integrated water resources management framework;
