Prepare a persuasive or informational speech. Essays are written for reading and speeches are developed for listening – these are very different. While reading an essay a reader can track the progression and if the reader misses a word or phrase, can simply go back, and read again. Not so with the listener. Once the sound of the word dissipates it is gone, no re-winding, no stopping, it is information lost. For these reasons, the structure of a speech must be more evident using coherent outlines. The speech outline should be nearly explicit.

Objectives:
Engage in the first six steps of preparing a speech, including selecting a topic, analyzing your audience, researching your topic, collecting supporting materials, developing main points, and organizing your speech materials.
