Film Analysis Paper

The goal of this analysis paper is to apply a theory from the textbook to specific situations and characters as they communicate in a film.

To do this, you will:
Select a film to analyze in terms of the communication theories we have covered in class.
Select a theory (or theories, but no more than 2) from the text that includes communication theory or principle that you think explains the behavior or communication in the film.
For example, “stages of relational development theory" is one of the areas in the unit on interpersonal contexts that would work well with the film "Knocked Up” (or pretty much any romantic comedy).

Assignment Guidelines:
The organization of the essay should reflect the following:

An introduction indicating:
The film
Your reason for wanting to use this particular film
The theory (or theories) from the text you will use in the paper, (4) a brief description of the main ideas in the theory
Your analysis explaining why this theory is an appropriate choice for this film.
The body of the paper should be more concerned with how the theory/ies apply than the story or plot of the film.
The conclusion of the paper should:
Summarize the main ideas
State what you learned from viewing the film via the communication theory lens.
