As you conduct your research, think about how LANGUAGE is used to show one’s power (either as an individual or as part of a group). Specifically, show how language expresses power in terms of politics, gender, and/or ethnicity. One of the biggest mistakes that students often make is to write a paper about differential access to power based on gender or ethnicity, without an emphasis on LANGUAGE and specifically on the way that language is used which results in differential access to power.
