Fine-tech case study

• Approximately 1 page in length.

• Before you start this section try to get a “feel” for the main problem. Some places to look for the key problem are:

o case questions,

o what the key players are grappling with, or

o what is included at the start or at the end of the case.

• Open with a profile paragraph. Impress upon your client you know enough about the organization, where its going and how it got there to understand the problem and then to create effective solutions.

• Next include a problem statement. This is the area you would summarize from for the executive summary. High level, analytic statement of overall current situation.

State the primary issues contributing to or causing the overall problem. Follow the “rule of 3” – limit yourself to 3 issues. This will keep you at a high level. Remember that the most common categories of issues found in cases are:

o Governance

o Strategy

o Technical

o Organization and human relations

State not only the issue, but also what its impact is (what happens if we don’t fix this – in hard quantified facts!!). Convince the reader why its an issue. Give some indication of what priority each issue is to address.

• May have (not necessary) a closing or problem summary statement.
