The aim of political association is the provide it members with a morally good life. In antiquity this was a reasonable claim. Why? How does Aristotle and Confucius answer this question? What is the role of education for the citizens and for the members of the government to them? However, today it seems such an aim for the polity is at best imprudent and at worse dangerous. Why? Does this imply that we should not expect any kind of public morality in the modern nation state? Why or Why not?
