Description of Task
Part 1: Financial Analysis
Use financial information to assess the financial health of at least two club(s) or organisation(s) for the last 20 years (or some other multiple – i.e. 4 clubs over 10 years; 8 clubs over 5 years etc.).
Use graphical analysis to illustrate your findings. Identify factors that may have contributed to changes in the financial situation, such as sporting performance, decisions about capital and player investment and whether there is evidence that this can be related to changes in ownership or changes in ownership behaviour. You should also provide some overview of the value of the clubs and the potential impact associated with Covid-19.
Part 2: Analysis of Competitive Balance
Using a professional team sport league of your choice and using appropriate measures of competitive balance, examine and assess how competitiveness has varied over time (minimum of 20 seasons) and establish the extent to which this can be related to structural changes, intervention policies and ownership changes with specific clubs.
In both parts you are expected to engage with relevant studies, including academic literature to support your analysis and findings.
