Rocco Galati, the chief lawyer for the Canadian Islamic Congress, had this to say about the passage of the Anti-Terrorism Act: “19 terrorists in 16 weeks have been able to command 300 million North Americans to do away with the entirety of their civil liberties that took 700 years to advance from the Magna Carta onward. The terrorists have already won the political and ideological war with one terrorist act. It is bind-boggling that we are that weak as a society.” ( source – https://www.cfc.forces.gc.ca/259/290/318/305/clifford.pdf)

Using at least four of the five articles below, discuss what motivates Mr. Galati and other legal experts to be so critical of the Anti-Terrorism Act. What sort of principles do you feel should guide the creation of any emergency legislation?
