WIC Project Part I 

January 2023 – Part One: WIC Introduction, 30 hours 

Complete the activities listed.  

  1. This WIC project counts for 30 hours of Alternative Experiences. You do not need to keep a weekly log.
  2. Community WIC Folder is in your Google portfolio. Within that folder is the WIC Part I Project folder. Upload summaries, tables, certificates, counseling responses, growth charts, presentation and nutrition education material in your WIC Google Portfolio as pdf documents or ppt (as defined by project).
  3. Save each document with LastNameFirstname_activity, e.g.

  1. Most summaries are one-page summaries. Include your name, DFN 730, and WIC Part I, 2023 in the heading. Single space, use either 10 or 12 font, Cabrini or Times New Roman.
  2. Some of the staff in-service and/or educational handouts may be chosen at the end of the DFN 730 during spring or summer semester to be shared with fellow interns.
  3. Participate in WIC Discussion Board forums (DFN 730 Spring 2023)

Review: What are effective intervention strategies that have been identified to assist food insecure individuals in meeting their nutritional needs? 

Write a one-page summary that includes:

  • What you find to be important or compelling points in the Conclusion
  • The meaning of the Grade
  • A summary of one of the nine studies in the Evidence Summary

  2. Read and summarize the Review Article: Twenty years of WIC: A review of some aspects of the program, by Owen and Owen, July 1997 (6 pages).

What is the FDA’s definition of infant formula (definition was part of the Feeding Infants: Nourishing Attitudes and Techniques course)? Write a one-page review of a current research article on infant formula ingredients and their health effects. Citation in APA format.

Interpret and incorporate new scientific knowledge and develop new educational material (staff in-service PPT and patient handout) to be put into practice. Include a pretest and post test (no more than five questions).

  • Staff in-service PPT should be anywhere from 10-16 slides including cover slide and reference slide. Cite work in APA format.
  • Pre and post-test no more than five questions. Include them in your slide deck. Multiple choice questions preferred.
