ASSIGNMENT

In this module we looked at multiple strategies and techniques banks use to design and determine their structure for sources of funds. We are going to practice these new skills with the bank you chose back in Discussion 1.
For this discussion, you will need access to your bank’s most recent 10k statement.

You will also need to search for interviews (whether through financial news outlets like WSJ or even YouTube) of your bank and its management team. Remember, you need to become the subject matter expert on your bank. So, in addition to the bank’s market position, be sure you are current on the management team and what they have said.

Remember: you need to use your own words. Do not quote. Be sure to cite all your sources in every post. Page 4 of our syllabus outlines that at least 95% of your post needs to be in your own words with all sources cited to get credit.

For your initial discussion, address these questions:

1. What are some key techniques and strategies that your bank uses to manage deposits? What are the key drawbacks and opportunities here? Go into detail, be specific. Be sure to backup your claims from the textbook and research. Use your own words (never quote) and cite the page number so we can refer back to it.

2. What is your bank’s strategy for non-deposit fund sources? What factors influence management’s decision to select certain sources? What are the key drawbacks and opportunities? Be sure to backup your claims from the textbook and research. Use your own words (never quote) and cite the page number so we can refer back to it.

3. What other sources of fee income does your bank use? Why? What are the key drawbacks and opportunities? Be sure to backup your claims from the textbook and research. Use your own words (never quote) and cite the page number so we can refer back to it.

4. What strategies does your bank use to manage capital? What are the key drawbacks and opportunities? What role does compliance play? Go into detail, be specific. Be sure to backup your claims from the textbook and research. Use your own words (never quote) and cite the page number so we can refer back to it.

Use descriptive. specific examples! Do not just reflect on the idea, support your opinions with the textbook, module material, and additional credible research (wikipedia is not credible). Use business and academic appropriate sources and cite them. How detailed should your initial post be?

One sentence answers will not cut it. You will most likely need a detailed paragraph for each question to deeply analyze what you read about your bank. How detailed should your responses to classmates be? Again, brief sentences will not cut it. Dive deep everyone. question or add to your classmates’ analysis. Use the module material to contribute to what your classmate is saying.
