Read both pages of Introduction to How Black Boxes Work/IASA C-, and then research and identify what area of aviation benefited from the transition to solid-state devices. Have some fun with this activity and think outside of your comfort zone. If you work on military aircraft consider choosing a commercial or general aircraft. If you work on Boeing aircraft, consider choosing an Airbus, etc.

In your opinion, what makes solid-state devices a benefit to the NAS? What are some of the keys to solid-state devices in the electrical behavior of semiconductors that have helped with this improvement? Has solid-state digital avionics increased the reliability of aircraft? Did sensitivities and applications for solid-state devices as used in modern Avionics apply to the article?
