Topic: Social media use and body image

It is unclear what the relationship is between social media use and body image. Some examples of body image issues include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. There has been some research to suggest a correlation between the two. Still, it is unclear if social media is causing body image issues or if people who already have body image issues are more likely to use social media (Quitkat et.al, 2019). This is an important question because if social media is causing body image issues, interventions can be put in place to help people at risk. If people with body image issues are more likely to use social media, then it is important to understand why this is the case and whether there is anything that can be done to help them. Some things that help people with body image issues include providing them with information about healthy body image, helping them develop a positive self-image, and providing them with support if they are struggling with an eating disorder. Surveys and statistics will come into play a lot with the idea of body image, especially when it comes to social media.
