Reflective Journal: Language Development

Directions:
In this module, we focused on physical, cognitive, and emotional/social development during the early childhood stage, which ranges in age from 2 to 6 years old. This is an age of increased exploration and autonomy for the child. Motor skills and nutrition are important for physical growth and this is the time the child starts to develop his/her language skills. Consider the questions and write a journal that addresses the questions below.

For this assignment, you will consider the difference between the way parents speak to, dress, and select toys for boys and girls.

What are some implications or differences in the ways adults speak to boys and girls?

What can parents and caregivers do to promote infants’ language development?

How does learning a language during this age help develop cognitive skills in the future?

How might the selection of clothing and toys affect development?

Write a short paragraph addressing each of the questions listed above using your own words. Do not forget to cite your sources using APA style format.
