• Explain Geer’s three explanations for the rise in negativity in presidential campaigns. Do you agree with his third reason?

• Regarding negative ads, journalists have said that “negative is where the story is” and “[W]e often ‘make a big deal out of small things.’” Geer seems to be saying that the media, by focusing/reporting on negative ads, is shaping how we view candidate our presidential candidates. Do you believe that doing so gives the media too much power? Could President Trump’s claims of “fake news” be justified? Why or why not?
