I. Who is the Author?

Does he/she teach? Write? Where? Living or dead?
Other works by this author?
Is the author qualified to write on this subject? Have they written other books on the same topic?
II. Summary of the book — one paragraph

1.Provide a synopsis of the book

III.What is the author’s main point? What is the one main idea he/she is trying to convey?

IV. Support

Does the author support this main point convincingly? Show 5 specific examples of one paragraph each of how the author does this.
What sources does the author use? Do not try to list them, just look and make sure the author USED SOURCES.
Primary? Newspapers, diaries, court cases, letters, abstracts of title, etc.
Secondary? Books written by other historians
Don’t list the sources, just state whether or not the author uses primary and/or secondary sources and if you think these sources are adequate.
V. Summary of your opinion of the book

Audience — For whom was the book written? Scholars? Students? The general public?
Would you recommend the book? Is it a valuable contribution to scholarship in this field? What did you think of the book, personally.
