Task
For this last part of the assignment ‘Developing a Social Enterprise’ you will evaluate and
critically reflect on the main social impacts of your project/ business plan developed for
assessment 2. By applying social impact measurement tools, you will aim to define the scale
and scope of your social enterprise. Furthermore, you will aim to assess and demonstrate the
‘social’ value/ impact of the intended outcomes (the changes) through some identified
metrics. Lastly you should aim to highlight any barriers to implementation.

Objective
The most obvious reason for measuring social impact is to know whether the
transformational change a social enterprise is striving for is indeed occurring. To do so it is
important firstly to ask:
What questions do you need to ask to evaluate the organisation’s social impact?
What is the scale (explicit target) and scope (range of activities required) identified
by the organisation and its operational mission?
Then to establish the effect of the activities by accounting for:
How is your Social Enterprise meeting the needs of its beneficiaries, employees,
funders, clients?
How is its social mission being achieved?
Also, how will you know if your organisation is successful? measuring impact enables
organisations to:
Account fully for their social, environmental and economic impacts (TBL).
Report on performance
Provide essential information for planning future action and effective management.
