Exploring COVID-19 & the Arts

ASSIGNMENT

Write a minimum 250-words exploring the following research questions:
What major performing arts organizations have closed and for how long? What do you think reopening will look like?

Look to see what types of organizations are helping artists and how? Why do you think artists need so much help? (Hint: one factor is the “gig economy”)

How are some organizations/artists responding to this crisis creatively by creating new opportunities?

Discuss these creative solutions. Do you think they make art more or less accessible to the public? Why?

Consider a few angles of accessibility issues for the audience (ex: income, disabilities, location of audience vs. whose art is being made accessible (ex: anti-blackness, colorism, colonialism, imperialism, classism, ableism, and trans discrimination within classical and new music spaces)
