Coming from small village in southern Poland I always had curiosity to explore the world and study new things. My father who couldn’t receive higher education due to political and financial reasons always told me: study, study because science is the most powerful key (this sounds better in Polish). Therefore, I studied, and studied and now I want to study more.
I have been looking at Computer and Information Technology courses for some time now, but I had trouble finding good quality courses directed to people without previous experience in Computer Science. This program seems to be the best fit for me because I don’t have much experience in computer science. My first degree was in Agriculture followed by a degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
Having a career in Pharmaceutical Discovery and Development I believe that this degree will help me succeed in applying IT technologies in speeding up the process of drug development. In the pharma market, speed of product development is critical to succeed. The cost of necessary reviews and approvals by health authorities, involving preclinical experimental data, is prohibitively expensive at an average of USD15billion per product. Testing for drug efficacy, ADME and toxicology in early development stages is very costly and even most promising drugs fail in clinical trials. Numerous studies have shown that modeling and prediction techniques using computational technologies have positive impact on successful drug development in clinical phase and shorten the time of development phase which in cases of epidemic situations like the one we are currently experiencing are critical. After completion of this program I would like to continue to advance my career to academic doctoral level where I hope to pursue research in topics related to implementing AI technologies in successful drug development. I strive to work with the diverse group of people and this course being offered to students from all over the world will be a perfect match for me.
Currently I am working on my MBA successfully combining full-time job with studying at demanding academic institution currently working on final Life Business Project aiming to research effect of mergers and acquisitions in Pharmaceutical Industry.
I believe that having experience in both working full-time and studying at the same time and performing well will give me an advantage in starting this course.
I have studied full time in 3 countries undertaking complicated courses in 2 different languages. I understand, this degree is demanding and will require a lot of commitment but based on my previous experiences I believe I have what it takes to succeed. Having this degree as basis I am planning on continuing my research work combining my knowledge from both pharmaceutical sciences and computer science.
Although I don’t have any previous experience in Computer Science I believe that my 10+ years Research and Development experience and skills in pharmaceutical research and development acquired over the years would be beneficial to other students too. I am outgoing person with experience on serving as class representative, team leader and student counselor. I strongly believe that key to success is in sharing knowledge between team members and I plan to apply this philosophy when undertaking this course to contribute to my classmates’ success.
