CLO1/2: Participant Observation: Students will find, observe, and write a reflection paper on
their observation of an online worship service of a Christian tradition other than their own and coming
from the following list (Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Anglican, Coptic Christian, Lutheran,
Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopal, Quaker, Moravian, Mennonite, Adventist, etc.). The
religious group MUST be other than the student’s own 3 present or past religious group. Alternatively,
students may interview the pastor, priest, or minister of a congregation in another religious tradition. A
reflection paper must be submitted based on these questions: (1) What are the historical roots of the
religious tradition you observed? (2) What practices, rituals, and activities did you observe? Describe them. (3) How did the observed service differ from what you practice? (4) Of what value for the Christian community are the practices of the observed tradition? (5) What did you learn from the observation experience?
