Using the resources provided below compose a brief assignment (500 to 800 words, approximately 2 to 3 pages) about cybersecurity in the workplace. Below are a few prompts to help you focus your assignment.
• Why do companies conduct cybersecurity risk assessments? What do they find out from these assessments?
• Why should companies increase cybersecurity awareness among their employees? How can they do this?
• What are the benefits of regularly updating applications (apps), of password control, and of VPNs?
• What are the benefits to a company and to individual employees of creating a culture of cybersecurity, where employees continue to use best practices outside of the office?
• What cybersecurity risks occur when employees bring their own devices to work? How can companies mitigate these risks?
• What are some resources to help people remain aware of cybersecurity threats and best practices?

Cyberspace Security Resources:
Whenever you are online—whether for work or entertainment—you’ll want to take care to protect both your personal information and the proprietary business information of your workplace. This involves a number of behaviors that should become routine for you, such as:
• Use a virus-protection program on all your computers and keep it updated.
• Create strong passwords and change them often.
• Avoid clicking links in suspicious e-mails.
• Exercise caution when using free WiFi, because you have no control over its security.
• Be careful what you download, because malware can be disguised as an app (anything from a game to a map service).
• Learn how to recognize secure sites. Secure sites usually begin with “https://” (not merely “http://—the s indicates security), or they display a small padlock symbol.

Social engineering is a type of fraudulent behavior that involves tricking someone into divulging confidential or personal information. The article linked below is from Symantec Corporation, an antivirus software company. It provides much useful information.

● Oxen Technology. (2018, June 11). Basic cybersecurity tips for the workplace.
● Rosenblatt, S., & Cipriani, J. (2015, June 15). Two-factor authentication: What you need to know (FAQ).

Another tool for keeping passwords safe is two-factor authentication (2FA). This is a process that requires you to add a second level of authentication to an account log-in.
Your assignment should:
• Cover the topic completely and accurately. Use what you have learned about critical thinking to provide reasons or evidence for your statements.
• Credit all sources you used to complete your assignment. You will not be graded in this assignment on the details of citation style, but it is important that you indicate to the best of your ability when you have used information from an outside source.
• Check to make sure your paper is well organized and clearly written, with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
