Assigned reading: New social media tools empower citizen journalism

Summary:

This reading demonstrates the relation between the social media tools and citizens in context of delivering the live news and reports online anytime and anywhere which in return galvanize citizen journalism. By practicing this, it authorizes us to act and think in a broader way easing off the boundaries that traditional journalism has.

Critique:

I think the reading acted fair on the part of viewers and readers by including the unquestionable and brave example of Diamond Reynolds in which she accounts the death procedure of her boyfriend Philando Castile and aired it on Facebook but the reading depicts contradiction with its theme as in the end Facebook took down the video from social platform and later on allows it to get visible, so it is not always the positive empowerment of citizen journalism. Sometimes the social media also plays the influential part.

Question:

Why there comes a need for social media itself to play the authoritative part towards the content delivered by citizen journalists?
