The article you read this week describes (as well as shows video of) a hate crime incident from Chicago. The hate crime highlights a disturbing trend in the United States. According to the FBI, hate crimes have increased by 17 percent between 2016 and 2017″ (Sage, 2019). According to the New York Times “Anti-Asian hate crimes increased 150% in 2020” (Yam, 2021).

After reading the article.Write more about the dynamics of this crime. It has been said that, “Hate crimes do not simply happen; they are motivated by a variety of feelings, beliefs, and emotions” (Wallace & Roberson, 2015, p. 199). How would you categorize the offenders who committed this horrible act? You should read the “Typology of Offender Motivation” (starting on page 551 in the textbook) and explain which of Levin, McDevitt, and Bennett’s categories (Table 14-1 on page 552) of offenders these suspects were in. Write about how we identify this as a hate crime (based on what you read in the chapter), and which typology of offender these suspects would fit into. Why do you believe this?
