Select and write only about ONE of the following topics:
Option 1.Write an essay that describes how the main character of Open City allows us to experience the multiple voices of the many minorities that live in the urban settings he explores and the different, intertwined histories they carry with them. You can consider exclusively his urban explorations of New York or expand your analysis to the other urban settings he describes in the novel. Remember to refer to specific examples in the text that you will properly introduce and analyze.

FYI-Definition of Flanerie: Flâneur is a French noun referring to a person, literally meaning “stroller”, “lounger”, “saunterer”, or “loafer”, but with some nuanced additional meanings. Flânerie is the act of strolling, with all of its accompanying associations.

Write an essay that analyzes how Julius’ explorations of the cities in the novel allow him to reconsider his own past through constant flashbacks between his own life and the life of others.
